Wellington Batucada is a community based percussion group, which was originally formed in November 2001 to perform in the Cuba Street Carnival. It brings the world of samba from Brazil to Wellington.
Wellington Batucada invited everyone to join, regardless of experience. They have a range of authentic Brazilian instruments that beginners are welcome to use at their rehearsals. When they have suffient numbers of interested beginners,a 6 week block of beginners classes is run on Sundays in Thistle hall before their regular practices. The clases cover the rhythms of Brazil including samba, samba reggae and baion.
